Collection: Owen Jones

Owen Jones (1809–1874) was a British architect, designer, and theorist best known for his influential book The Grammar of Ornament (1856), which catalogued decorative styles from around the world. He championed the use of colour, pattern, and historical design principles in modern architecture and design, drawing inspiration from Islamic, especially Moorish, art. Jones played a key role in the design of the Crystal Palace and was a major figure in the Victorian design reform movement, helping to shape 19th-century taste and the teaching of ornament.
